WISCO Survey - Edit Survey Questions

This selection can be used to create new survey questions and edit previously entered survey question and response text.(correct misspelled words, etc.) Question and response text can be edited after responses have been entered. You can not change the number of questions, or the survey question type, or delete any choices after any responses have been entered. You can add choices to some question types after responses have been entered.

Survey Questions

To create a complete survey question, follow the step-by-step instructions on the right side of the screen.

Question Text

Enter the question text in the edit box labeled Current Question Text Box. Each question can have up to 400 characters.

Question Type

Select the question type from the list on the left side of the screen. Your survey can include any combination of these question types. The question types determine how the choices and responses are displayed and analyzed. The question type determines the amount of space that will be reserved in the response data file. Question types can not normally be revised after survey responses have been entered. More detailed explanations have been consolidated in the Question Types chapter of this manual.

Question Text Choices

Add one text choice to each edit box (up to 70 characters each). The number of choices allowed for each question depends on the question type that was selected. Your text choices should give a complete spectrum of answers. In some cases you might want to add a choice called 'Other', or 'None of the Above', or 'Don't Know'. These answers could really be the most accurate for the respondent.

Add Question Button

When you have completed your question text, question type selection, text choices, question topic, column labels, and any other options, click the Add Question button. Clicking this button will add your question to the All Survey Question Listing and clear all edit boxes for the next question, and reset the question type. This button is not enabled if responses have already been entered.

Clipboard Copy and Paste Buttons

If your survey questions are similar, WISCO Survey can use the Windows clipboard to copy and paste the complete question text, all text choices, column labels, and related options. Follow the instructions on the right side of the screen to duplicate the complete question. Make your revisions, then save the complete set of questions. These buttons are not enabled if responses have already been entered.

Chart Text

Clicking the button to the right of the Clipboard Paste button reveals a third grid column. The column to the right of the Text Choices is for shorter text choices. Chart text is used for labels on thematic maps and charts, and displayed when selecting question parts. If left blank, the text choice from the first column is always used. For example, the text for a question choice could be 'Willingness of manager to provide positive recognition'. That long choice on a chart would not be an appropriate label. The choice topic 'Positive Recognition' would fit better. Chart text is also used in some report column headings.

More complete explanations for entering question choices are located in the Question Types chapter of this manual.

Editing a Question

If editing, select the question you wish to change from the All Survey Question Listing at the top of the screen. The question text will appear in the same edit box as when you first created the question. The question choices, question type, topic, and additional information (rating scale terms, column headings, maximum values, and group headings) can be displayed. Make the necessary changes to the question, question choices, topic text, or maximum value. When you are done with the changes, click the save button.

Prior and Next Buttons

These buttons can be used to move the focus to other questions in the All Survey Question Listing. When a question is selected, the appropriate choices, question type, topic, and other options are displayed. Using these buttons would be the same as using the scroll bar on the All Question Listing, and then selecting the question with the mouse.

Enter the question number in the edit box next to the button. Then click the button, or Alt-G. The question text, text choices, and other options will be displayed.
